JUNE EVENTS

Support Tohoku Fundraising Event for the people of Minami-Soma, Fukushima-ken.
The Save MinamiSoma Project has been taking food and supplies directly to the people living in the 30km nuclear reactor evacuation zone of Minamisoma who are still in need of assistance after the Tohoku-Kanto earthquake.

RIJ Grand Charity Auction

REFUGEES INTERNATIONAL JAPAN IS PLEASED to announce that our 6th Grand Charity Auction and Gala will take place on Friday 3 June. The Gala will be a high profile gathering of distinguished business leaders and private individuals, who will help us raise the money that will restore hope to so many. A cocktail reception and silent auction will be followed by a formal dinner, entertainment and live auction. Proceeds will go towards supporting displaced communities in the Tohoku region as well as funding refugee projects around the world. Teams : 8 Teams of 5 people with subs (one female per team)

Volunteer Recruitment Started
Habitat Japan has started to recruit disaster response volunteers. The disaster response volunteers are to be involved in clean-ups of the debris and mud, demolition, and organizing the evacuees' belongings.

Government’s policy towards revitalization

Guidebooks are now available, which depict a brief overview of the government’s policy towards revitalization and what victims can use as support programmes.

Women's hotlines - for GBV, DV, and health

The purple hotline is taking call form women throughout Japan with special attention on women suffering form the disaster.  Besides Japanese, you can call in English, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Tagalog and Thai. (days and times are limited for languages other than Japanese.)

Group supporting families in Tohoku needs safe spaces for women and children:

'Hahako' is a community-based group that offers pregnant women, parents, and children a safe evacuation from the disaster area. They're looking for people or groups who want to offer the victims a safe place to stay temporarily or long term--a free room or room rental, either public or private. The website is in Japanese only at the moment, but the registration form will be soon shown in English too.

Global Campaign for Education GCE Action Week May 2 – 8, 2011

PR and MARKETING DIRECTOR
REFUGEES INTERNATIONAL JAPAN IS CURRENTLY SEEKING candidates for the role of Marketing and PR Director. This is a voluntary position. The Marketing and PR Director is a Board member responsible for marketing, publicity, media contact and publications. The time required would be approximately 10 hours per week. Bi-lingual ability and knowledge of the Japanese media is an advantage.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR VOLUNTEERING WITH REFUGEES INTERNATIONAL JAPAN
EVERY YEAR, RIJ volunteers organize a full program of events to raise funds and to spread awareness of refugee issues. If you have time, enthusiasm and would like to help with planning and running an event, please let us know what kind of help you would like to offer (be it time, energy and/or expertise) and how much time you can spare to work with RIJ. Events range from our annual Auction to smaller social activities such as a pub quiz and youth dance workshops. Volunteers can work from home or at our office and at times to suit their work and family commitments. Even as little as an hour a week can make a difference. And you are guaranteed to meet some wonderful dedicated people and have fun!
