GROWN-UPS PLAY WITH HULA HOOPS Spin Matsuri will host workshops by Ayumi and Deanne along with other instructors from Japan, Australia, and the US. The weekend atmosphere will be international and educational, with languages and cultures mixing while smiles and hoops bring everyone together.
Hooping, a fun and healthy lifestyle activity, has enjoyed national TV attention in Japan: Ayumi, from Hoop Tokyo, presented a hoop dance mission on Million Dice in June; and Deanne, from HoopLovers, shared her love of hoop dance on Sekai Marumie and Tokyo MX earlier this year.
In addition, the festival takes place on World Hoop Day, an annual global event that raises funds for hoops and distributes them to needy children around the world. Spin Matsuri will be dedicated to sending hula hoops around the globe on the Japan-based NPO, Peace Boat.

AITEN October Public meeting: Refugees in Japan: Safe Haven or Living Hell?
Venue: AIJ Office, Kanda, Tokyo
The life of an illegal immigrant is never an easy one, but in Japan it can be lethal. This year alone has seen the death of one man at the hands of Japanese immigration officers, two suicides, and hunger strikes protesting appalling conditions at detention centers. To understand what is wrong with Japan's immigration policy, we have invited AI Japan's Refugee Officer, Hiroka Shoji, and representatives of Tsukuba University's refugee support group, Clover, to speak to AITEN members and supporters in English. Note that seating is limited.

Topic: "Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Floods - Whose Responsibility?"
Natural disasters wreak havoc on the communities they affect. Hundreds, sometimes thousands, of people are killed and many more are injured. But the sheer number of deaths in the Haiti Earthquake, the Pakistan Floods and the Asian Tsunami could easily have been avoided. This workshop discusses the measures that governments, NGOs, private corporations and civil society can and should be taking to prevent the scale of these disasters before looking at a critical question in all our minds here in Japan: 'How well prepared are we for the next big quake?'

Fujisawa Beach Cleaning Project. The Project involves a large community beach cleanup in spring and in fall, followed by an aperitif -buffet. We will be part of Ocean Conservancy's 25th anniversary International Coastal Cleanup.
The Project is a tangible, fun and family-oriented way to give back to the community and to get to know each other better. It thrives on the generosity of volunteers and corporations.
There will be a lucky draw during the aperitif-buffet. The grand prize is a pair of return tickets (Tokyo-London) donated by Virgin Atlantic.

Oxfam Japan IVG Awareness Workshop (English)
