This months listing includes some groups we have never featured before including K.
International School Columbia University Alumni Association and the
YMCA Foreign Community Supporting Committee as well as pour regulars
TELL, Nerd Night and Refugees International Japan (RIJ).
Since Fall is the season for fundraising events, there are also several
listing for November events, because throughout October they are
looking for people to volunteer, register and donate prizes for their
auctions and raffles.
From this month, I will generally list events in chronological order. Appologies to anyone whose event info i missed! And be sure to share this events listing with anyone who might be interested.

The Great Beer Bluff
Thursday, October 25, 7pm–10pm
Venue: BrewDog craft beer bar Roppongi 5-3-2, Saito Bldg 1F
The minimum donation: JPY7,000 per person and includes A welcome drink,
Food perfectly designed for beer drinking, 4 rounds of beer tasting and
entertainment (almost 80% of ticket fee will go to support RIJ!)
BrewDog, Refugees International Japan (RIJ), and our collaborative
sponsors invite you to a fun and relaxed beer tasting event with a
twist. Guests will taste a selection of beers, each one paired with
three different stories from our esteemed panel. One of the stories will
reflect the truth, with the other two being complete bluffs. In groups,
attendees must pit their palates and lie detection abilities against
the panel to uncover the true description of the beer revealing the
bluffs and the buffs.
Guests are encouraged to register in groups of 6 to make the teams even
and fair. Guests that register as individuals will be placed into groups

A family event open to all ages. As part of this cross-cultural
exchange, we’ll be sending Japanese art materials to Ruskin Land in
Bewdley and they’ll be sending us art materials from there, including
charcoal made in their woods! Through using, understanding and
experimenting with traditional British and Japanese drawing methods and
materials, everyone will be able to incorporate their own style and
knowledge alongside a different cultural practice. There’ll also be a
live feed between Yoyogi Park Tokyo & Ruskin Land Bewdley to create
an interaction between the countries.
What to Bring: your sketchbooks and favorite drawing
materials, drinks/snacks, clothes suitable for the park and bug

The Asia Leadership Fellow Program (ALFP) is a joint program of the
International House of Japan and the Japan Foundation that seeks to
create a close, personal and professional network of public
intellectuals in Asia, who have demonstrated outstanding leadership
ability and are deeply rooted in and committed to civil society beyond
their respective backgrounds and professional arenas.
This year, the eight fellows listed below will engage in dialogue among
themselves, as well as with their counterparts in Japan, under the theme
“Imagining Plural Asias: How Can We Enrich Interrelationships across
Borders?”—to seek possibilities of creating sustainable and inclusive
societies while embracing diversities across borders. In this public
forum, the fellows will share their thoughts on the current situation in
their countries and issues they have been working on, along with the
fruits of the dialogue and the collaborative activities they will have
engaged in for two months in Japan.

YMCA Foreign Community Supporting Committee is hosting a gala event at the Tokyo American Club to celebrate the 60th
Anniversary of the founding of their volunteer committee which first
began in 1958. A determined group of ever changing volunteers from
Within the Tokyo foreign business community, have helped support the
activities of YMCA with a particular focus on Challenged Children
Programs. The CCP programs include camping and educational programs for
mentally and physically disabled Japanese children living throughout
Japan. In lieu of attendance, cash and prize donations are heartily
welcome for prize for the raffle drawing as well as auction.

Peace Boat Disaster Relief Volunteer Center (PBV) BPW Japan internship
BPW Japan has accepted applications from women aged 30 or younger who
are willing to attend the events as internships by October 10th. We
appreciate female university students over 20 years old who are
interested in gender equity and gender parity. This is a fantastic
opportunity that participants obtain brand-new information of activities
and principles by UN, UN Women, and international organizations from
various countries to improve gender equality and parity, communicate
with participants all over the world while they must incur substantial
costs including accommodations, flight tickets, and some events tickets
by themselves.

PR/marketing internship opportunity
SKY Labo (Skylabo.org) is an exciting, new Japanese-founded non-profit
aiming to decrease in the STEM gender gap. It organizes a bilingual
summer STEM workshop for female Japanese mid/high school students. They
are looking for a PR/marketing person or company to work with them to
reach the Japanese audience (students, parents of students etc.) for the
workshop. The bulk of marketing/PR work would be late January to
July.
Skylabo is still small and they are in the process of increasing their
network of funders – therefore their budget is very limited as they grow
their reach. They would love to hear from people would believe in their
mission who could offer pro-bono or “low-bono” PR/marketing skills for
the next event.
Will report to a Japanese manager in Japan, so English skills not required, but a definite bonus.

Flooding in Western Japan: Call for International Volunteers (Meet / Finish at Shin-Kurashiki)
October 5, 2018 (Friday) – October 8, 2018 (Monday, public holiday)
Number of volunteers required: 8 English speakers and 2 bilingual speakers
Open call for international volunteers to Okayama, to support the relief
project in the areas affected by the flooding. We plan to organize a
team of international volunteers (English speakers and English+Japanese
speakers) once again for activities for the first weekend in October.
The volunteers will meet at Shin-Kurashiki station in the afternoon on
5th October (Friday) and finish the activity in the evening on 8th

Climate Reality Project Japan Strategic Partnerships Internship

Big news! Al Gore and the Climate Reality Project is coming to Japan,
hopefully Tokyo. They are looking for an intern. The Climate Reality
Project is a nonprofit organization founded by former Vice President Al
Gore. Our mission is to empower a global cultural movement demanding
immediate action on the climate crisis using cutting-edge advertising
and communications strategies to demonstrate the urgency and solvability
of the climate crisis. The Climate Reality Project is seeking a
motivated and detail-oriented intern to join our Strategic Partnerships
team to support partnership outreach projects for Japan. This is an
opportunity to learn collaborative partnership strategies, techniques,
and best practices in a rewarding environment.
Core Responsibilities
The intern's primary long-term project will be to identify, research and
communicate with prospective partners and speakers, with the aim of
creating a Japan-focused database for The Climate Reality Project’s
Climate Leadership Training planned for Japan in 2019.
- Work with Strategic Partnerships Director to build a regional outreach list and help identify partnership opportunities
- Update partner records in our database with correct information
- Produce research reports on select partner prospects
