NGO 212 Japanese Society & Nonprofit Organizations, Monday nights, starting Sept 30th
An issues-based course for those who wish to deepen their understanding of social issues in Japan and the work of organizations tackling them. Each week, participants are assigned online articles on issues and research on Japanese organizations to better understand the methods they use. Participants are expected to be active in class discussion, take part in group-work and make a final presentation on a current social issue and NGO of their choice. Anyone wanting to know more about Japanese society and nonprofit NGOs here in Japan is encouraged to join this course.

Current Issues in International Development   (Saturday mornings)
To gain a deeper understanding of sustainable development and the connection between current issues join this workshop where we investigate a core issues facing global society and how these are connected. This course uses interactive methods to help participants learn more about problems, peoples' needs and possible solutions. This course is for anyone wanting to work in INGOs, preparing to study overseas or wanting to learn more about what is going on in the world. This course also serves as a bridge for those who have completed the introductory courses.

Project Based Writing  (Thursday nights)
An advanced writing skills course focusing on report writing skills. In this ten-week specialized course, we will practice skills connected to writing well-organized and effective reports, including focusing on gathering and synthesizing various sources of information, writing about specific types of data, critiquing and analyzing source material, as well as logical writing structure. Beyond some assigned readings, for this term students will be given an opportunity to choose the topics they wish to write about as part of a course-long writing project. Participants include those working in non-governmental organizations, international or multinational organizations, and those wishing to attend graduate school.
